Dale and Lawrence Heckman bought into the auto electric shop in 1956 and Heckman and Schmitz changed the name to H&S Auto Electric. Husqvarna Dale bought Heckman's share of the business in 1975, how ever the name of H&S Auto Electric was used until 1978 when Dale's son, Ken, became a partner. The firm is now called S&S Auto Electric. FORMER TEACHER: Before becoming a partner with his father, the younger Schmitz taught at Valley City High School for three years. He said he gave up teaching and joined his dad because he likes being his own boss and he likes the auto electric business. "It's diversified and I have the chance to build new friendships," he added. Dale said he likes the day to day challenge. He enjoys the fact that business is constantly changing: for example, the change in auto ignition systems.
